Operational/Clerical Assistant

Overview

We are a full service boatyard handling predominantly leisure craft from 20–80 feet. Our business combines technical marine services, and retail sales through our chandlery. All accountancy functions are handled in-house. We also handle warranty work for Volvo Penta and Yanmar.

Role

This is a newly created position which would ideally appeal to somebody with a good level of accountancy knowledge. An interest in leisure boating would be beneficial, but not necessary. Working hours for this position may be part time or full time.

The incumbent will support the boatyard management team. Back up to our Management Accountant and Accounts team will also be required with day-to-day bookkeeping and office administration functions. Accuracy in recording, reconciliation, and reporting is required. The role is very varied, with much of the work focusing on “practical” aspects of our business.

Key Responsibilities

  • To develop a thorough understanding of our work flows and processes from both an accountancy and operational perspective.
  • Assisting/producing customer sales invoices with input from Boatyard managers.
  • Assisting/ processing of Volvo Penta & Yanmar warranty claims
  • Supporting the accounts team with various bookkeeping and office administration functions including confidential payroll and timesheet management.
  • Purchase ledger support.
  • Liaising with suppliers and customer support.
  • Processing the issuance/return of gate keys to customers, including the taking and returning of refundable deposits
  • Supporting the Boatyard Manager team with non-accountancy based tasks ie customer job scheduling etc
  • To develop a good working knowledge of our accounting and timesheet software.

Personal Competencies

  • Previous experience in accounts processing, bookkeeping, or finance administration.
  • Not necessarily fully qualified, but part-qualified accountant/bookkeeper would be an advantage.
  • An interest in boating is preferable.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with a solutions based attitude.
  • Good working knowledge of accounting processes and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage workload independently and meet deadlines.
  • A high level of numeracy, accuracy, good communication skills and an ability to learn new skills and processes.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
